Daniel Preece

Daniel Preece is training to become an electrician.

Trades World spoke to Daniel to find out more about his life, changes, and future ambitions in the trades.

What did motivate you to pursue a career in the trades?

My inspiration of the trades is about the flexibility it can offer me. I can choose when to work; also I have always had an interest in the electrical trade.

What is your employment history?

I was working in the motor industry, especially in the tyre fitting business. Then I moved to the tyre machinery sector, I am a senior engineer and I work on different machines.

Do you find your experience from the motor trades useful in your training?

Yes, I definitely find it very useful indeed. If I am at work and I need to find a fault in the system, this training that, I am doing now, is going to help me a lot to identify exactly what would be required.

What qualities does someone need to have in order to be a good electrician?

A good electrician is a professional who always abides by the rules. When people go directly through professionally accredited centres like ERR Wolverhampton, they will learn things exactly how they should be…following the rules and regulations of the electrical trades.

What things have you being doing in your electrical training?

We have installed lighting circuits, socket circuits as well as electrical testing and inspecting.

What is your most enjoyable part of the course?

My favourite part of the course is related with the electrical installing. When I do the installing, I also enjoy the testing side of things as well.

What is your plan after you finish your course and become fully qualified electrician?

I would like to work for myself and have my own business. I have always worked for someone else and it is time for me to follow my ambition and be my own boss. I like setting high standards and would like to continue this within my own business.

What advice would you give to people considering a career in the trades?

I left school with no qualifications, but if are dedicated, work hard and study regularly, I think everyone could pursue a career in the trades.
